In the Conformation Ring
As mentioned in the "About Me" section, I first got involved in dog showing in 1978. This was shortly after I got my first Siberian, Chimo and her breeders, Greg and Susan Shephard, asked if they could show her. Despite having never owned more then 5 dogs at a time (normally 2 or 3 at a time; 13 dogs total since 1978) and having a limited breeding program (averaging less then one litter per year), I have managed to be pretty successful at the dog shows.
Dog showing has become a very expensive sport and especially expensive to campaign a dog - the entry fees, traveling costs and the amount of advertising often needed to do a lot of winning in the show ring now-a-days all add up. Add to this the fact that I can no longer properly handle my own dogs due to my arthritis and therefore have to hire a handler, well it is making dogs shows rather prohibitive for me. They have honestly also loss their "value" for me as I no longer see them as an evaluation of breeding stock in the same way I did when I first started showing. I will still try to continue to put championship titles on at least some of my dogs but it is likely that Pippin, Multi BIS Can GChEx, AM/CFC Ch. Chimini's Peregrin Took WLD, CGN, RN, will be the last of my big winning dogs.
