Co-Owners - A Tribute
Many breeding kennels either place their breeding stock when their breeding years are over or end up having too many dogs for them all to live in the house with their owners. This created a dilemma for me that early on I needed to find a solution for as I wanted to be a breeder but I never wanted so many dogs that they could not be my house companions for their entire lives. The solution I decided on was to co-own some of my puppies. The co-owners would own the dog as their family pet but I would retain breeding rights to the dog. Many of the co-owned dogs never ended up being used in my breeding program for one reason or another and were spayed/neutered after a couple of years. Although I am extremely thankful to all those who have co-owned dogs with me over the years, this page is dedicated to the co-owners whose dogs have played a part in the Chimini breeding program. These co-owners have not just helped me raise litters but have helped me show and run my dogs in harness. They have helped me during the good times as well as helping me through some pretty rough times. They have become some of my closest friends. I can without a doubt in my mind say that without these dedicated co-owners there would not be a Chimini Siberians, at least not as many have come to know Chimini Siberians. I definitely owe these wonderful friends a debt of gratitude and thank them all from the bottom of my heart!
Carolyn Martin & Her Son SeanI first met Carolyn in 2007. At the time she was living in NB and was up front with me from the start that she had bred and shown dogs (different breed) before and was interested in a female puppy that she could show and maybe breed at some point. This would actually normally put me off placing a pup with her as I only want my puppies going to forever companion homes. However, Carolyn assured me that she felt the same as I about keeping her dogs for life. And there was just something about Carolyn that made me decide to give her a chance. What a smart decision! :)
Carolyn has not just raised several litters for me, but she, along with her son Sean, have been invaluable in helping me breed, whelp, show and run a number of dogs from the Chimini family. Without Carolyn and Sean's help I never would have been able to run my dogs in harness as seriously as we did for at least a few year. Carolyn has shown a number of dogs to their championship and has attended several sled dog races with Chimini Siberians. Most of my co-owners are people who love raising puppies but do not really want all the responsibilities that come with being a breeder. Although her studies have taken her away from breeding in the past few years and she now lives in Ontario, Carolyn has put the time and effort into becoming a knowledgeable, caring and responsible breeder in her own right if she so desires to follow that path. |

Becky CampbellI have known Becky since the early 1990's and have co-owned several dogs with her, both male and female. Like Carolyn, Becky has taken the time to learn about the breed, genetics, structure, etc. Becky has shown a several Chimini Siberians to their championship and has raised a litter on her own with Kali, as girl she got from me, as well as helping me raise litters. Becky and her husband Bruce and daughter Sherri have also helped take care of my dogs while I was away to shows or races, come over to help setup things for the dogs, etc. and Becky came on board as Pippin's co-owner to help me with the expenses the year I campaigned him. If it had not been for Becky's financial help I question whether Pippin would have made it to the PEI show where he picked up his first Best in Show. Becky also currently co-owns Strider with me just in case he is ever ready to strut his stuff in the show ring.

Colleen and Rob WolfeRob and Colleen got their first puppy, Evander, from me in 2008 from the same litter that Carolyn got Josie from. We got to know each other over the next few years and when they got their next puppy from me I asked them if they would be willing to co-own. Since then we have co-owned several dogs together and some have actually just stayed solely in my name (just to make registration of puppies easier re CKC) but they live with Rob and Colleen and I consider them their dogs. Colleen and Rob have recreationally run their Chimini Siberians in harness and Colleen has been to a few dogs show (hopefully more in the future) but they mostly just love raising puppies. And what a great place for puppies to be raised and socialized when there is a poker game at their house every week with 20-30 people! When I had to rehome Razzi in 2018, Carolyn, Margaret Ann and I all knew that Rob and Colleen would be the perfect fit for this little girl. Thank heavens we were finally able to convince Rob and Colleen of this and now Razzi has the perfect forever home.

Margaret Ann and Rick ShawI have known Margaret Ann and Rick since 2005 when they got Jive's brother, Bach (puppy name Charleston) from me. However, although Margaret Ann and Rick got a couple other puppies from me over the years they really were not interested in their dogs being bred until Jubie from the Crunchie x Ali litter came along. I fell in love with Jubie from the beginning as she looked so much like Jive. However, Jubie was a softer girl and I had concerns that my house would be too quiet a place for her to grow up. She needed someplace where she would get to meet more people on a regular bases. By this time, Margaret Ann and Rick had also left their previous working situations and had setup a dog boarding kennel. Well, people are coming and going from a boarding kennel every day! So, I talked to Margaret Ann and was able to convince her into taking Jubie on a co-ownership and by doing so I think I helped Margaret Ann realize just how much she also loves raising puppies. Again, what an awesome place for puppies to be raised!

Elizabeth WhiteElizabeth got Maia from me in the fall of 2016. However, I first met Elizabeth a couple years prior to this when she first sent me an application for a puppy. Her Siberian she had got from another breeder had recently passed on due to old age. Unfortunately, Elizabeth got me in a period where I was "in-between" having girls of breeding age. Unlike many who want their puppy *now*, Elizabeth patiently waited for her puppy from me. Once I got to know Elizabeth I let her "borrow" my dogs from time to time to help when ever she needed a dog fix. One of those dogs was River, who would end up being the mother of Maia. I also got Elizabeth involved in showing and running my dogs and both Elizabeth and her husband Charlie have been very helpful fixing things around the house for the dogs and I. When Elizabeth finally got Maia, her "apprenticeship" with River paid off as Elizabeth showed Maia not just to her championship but to becoming a multi Group placer. She also put a Rally Obedience title on Maia (easy after doing it with River!). Elizabeth hasn't raised a litter for me yet but that is going to hopefully happen in the near future.

Amber Welch and Jeff PowersWeaver was a singleton puppy from my first 2004 breeding of Levi to Freya. Although, I knew as a breeder I needed a girl to continue on my breeding program, I also did not want to part with Weaver until I found the right co-own home for him. I first met Amber at a dog training seminar. At the time Amber was working as kennel help for a well respected, long time breeder of Cockers. I had Freya with me to the seminar and Amber and I got talking and I found out that she had a real interest in Siberian Huskies. Well, one thing lead to another and eventually Weaver went home with Amber and Jeff. And when I repeated the Levi x Freya litter, Amber and Jeff also got Ceilidh (Jive's sister) from me.
Amber and Jeff have gone on to have their own kennel of Siberians Huskies but with their help Weaver and Ceilidh were able to become a very important part of my breeding program. Amber has a wealth of breeding knowledge and has also helped me raised a couple other litters of co-owned girls not owned by her and she has helped over the years with a number of other breeding related things such as the tattooing of my puppies. |

Pat and Krista MaynardPat and Krista got Disco from me in 2005 on a co-ownership and later co-owned Star, a bitch I bought from the US, with me. I placed these two pups with Pat and Krista with the thought that they would be bred together at some point. Like Tanka, Disco took this thought to heart and on one occasion arranged his whole breeding to Star. :) Although Pat and Krista did not actually raise a litter for me, they were always more then accommodating in letting me use these two dogs for breeding and gave them both loving homes. Pat also showed both Disco and Star to their Canadian Championships. Pippin also lived with Pat and Krista for the first few months of his life as he was originally sold on a co-ownership. But then faith stepped in when Krista ended up going back to work sooner then she expected after giving birth to her son. Pippin started spending more and more time with me and eventually Pat and Krista agreed it would be in Pippin's best interest to remain with me. I can never thank them enough for making this tough decision. I have also always felt that Pippin got his love for children from the time he spent with Pat and Krista.

Sandy McIntyreI placed Crash with Sandy in 2011. I knew at the time that Crash might end up being my only male down from Weaver but I wasn't in the position to keep another boy so Crash went to live with Sandy. Thanks to Sandy we were able to get Crash out with our team to put a Working Dog title on him and she also got him to shows so we could put a championship on him. As my only Weaver son (yes, Weaver was a very special boy in my mind), I knew that someday I would want to use Crash for breeding but it ended up being further down the road then I think either Sandy or I expected. However, Sandy thankfully agreed to keep Crash intact and Crash has now sired some lovely litters for Chimini Siberians. Sandy has also been very helpful with getting all those pictures of the litters that people see posted on the website.
