RiverRiver is from my "Doctor Who" litter. Doctor Who is a BBC show about a time lord who travels through time in a British telephone both that has been on TV for 50 years. River Song is one of the character in the show and I just really liked the name.
River is a fairly serious girl but she does have her goofy side especially when it comes to sleeping positions and when *she chooses* she can be very affectionate. While River matures, besides running in harness, I hope to do obedience and agility with this girl. Hopefully keeping her busy with these activities will help to keep her out of trouble! |
River's Parents |
River's father is one of my favourite boys, Tanka, who is out of Karen Ramstead's NorthWapiti's Wolvie. Wolvie was an Iditarod finisher and Tanka is one of our hardest working dogs in harness. Her mother is my sweet Ali who has run lead for me the past few years and is the girl I count on to keep the team to the right of the road.

"The Little Brown Devil Dog" |
This little girl reminds me of two of my past dogs - Chimio and Tasy. She possesses their same intelligence, independence and "free-spirit". Affectionately known as my "Little Brown Devil Dog", River seems to always be getting into trouble or in case of the backyard - out! She is constantly reminding me that important items need to be out of her reach if I don't want them chewed and that if I want her to remain in the backyard then the 5 foot high fence needs to be at least 7 feet high. I sometimes find it hard to believe that a girl who is line bred on my beloved Jive can be so "devilish"! However, I do have to remind myself that Jive's first litter was given the litter theme "Lord of the Rings" because at the time I was trying to read that series of books but Jive kept steeling and "digesting" them before I could finish a book.

In Harness |
Fortunately River does have some definite positives going for her. She is showing great promise in harness and even showing leader potential with very good confidence and drive for her young age. Unlike her father Tanka who has wonderful drive but loves to pull the team to the left, River's focus appears to be all going forward. I also really do love River's built. She has a very nice front, strong top line, lovely croup and nice proportions. She is very light on her feet and very athletic in appearance, just what a working Siberian Husky should look like in my opinion.

Puppy Sitter |
River is also a great puppy nanny. She has been a wonderful nanny to her little half-sister, Skittles. She played with her and always watched over her including insisting on being on the grooming table with her whenever Skittles is being groomed. These two have remained close as they have matured and can often be found sleeping together looking out the front window.
River is now the #1 puppy sitter for the newest addition, Strider and is incredibly patient with him, despite him being an obnoxious brat at times. River is quickly earning the title of "The Best Puppy Sitting". |
In The Show Ring |
River takes after the working side of her pedigree when it comes to breed type. She has a shorter coat, more leg length and a more leaner, athlete built then what you often see in the show ring. Combine this with her lack of "showy" presences in the show ring (she would rather be running in harness) and it has certainly been a challenge putting a championship on this girl. If you put her up against anything with a fluffy coat that is "showy" she is likely going to loose to it. To win she needs to either compete against a dog of similar breed type and/or be shown to a judge that appreciates her athleticism and her extremely smooth, effortless, light on her feet movement.
On June 3rd, 2017 River finished her Canadian Championship with back to back Best of Breed wins! :) - 2017 June 4th: South Shore Kennel Club WB, BB for 1 pt under judge Michael Lanctot - 2017 June 3rd: South Shore Kennel Club WB, BB for 1 pt under judge Patricia Lanctot - 2017 May 13th: Dartmouth Kennel Club WB for 1 pt under judge Martin Doherty - 2017 May 14th: Dartmouth Kennel Club WB for 1 pt under judge Peter Machen - 2016 Sept 13th: Pictou Kennel Club Show 4 BB for 2 pts under judge Charles Trotter - 2016 Sept 12th: Pictou Kennel Club Show 2 BB for 2 pts under judge Patricia Trotter - 2016 Sept 12th: Pictou Kennel Club Show 1 BB for 2 pts under judge Michel Chaloux |

RALLY
River's independent temperament has also made putting a rally obedience title on this girl a challenge as well. The brains are definitely there but not the desire to sit over, and over, and over again. ;) My friend, Elizabeth White, has taken on this challenge while I focus on River's mother Ali. After taking time off to have a litter and finish her championship, River finished her Rally Novice title at the Cogequid Dog Club trail on Aug. 5th, 2017 - 2017 Aug. 5th: Cobequid Dog Club score of 87 under judge Edward Leslie - 2016 June 5th: South Shore Kennel Club score of 79 under judge Shawn Kelly - 2016 June 4th: South Shore Kennel Club score of 90 under judge Shawn Kelly CGN River passed her Canine Good Neighbour test on January 13th, 2019. THERAPY DOG River became a registered Saint Johns Ambulance Therapy Dog on May 5th, 2019 making her a 6th generation Chimini Siberian Therapy Dog. |
As a Producer |
River has her first litter of pups in Nov. 2016. She was bred to Pippin's father, Orion, using 10 year old frozen semen. This resulted in a litter of one boy and three girls. Her son lives in NB and will be shown there. Her daughter, Maia, lives with Elizabeth White and is already pointed in the show ring at just 6 months of age including her two point win by beating out her mother, River.
