OBTAINING A PUPPY FROM CHIMINI SIBERIANS
What I Expect of YouThat You Have Done Your Research
Getting a dog is a serious undertaking and responsibility that starts with doing the research on the breed to educate yourself as to whether the Siberian is the right breed for you prior to getting one as well as the breeder you are considering getting your puppy from. I'd appreciate it if you would please read the information on this page and on the pages I have linked to below before contacting me. They will hopefully answer many of the questions you have. - The Siberian Husky - A Profile of the Breed |

You can find addition information about the breed on this page:
- Breed Info (still under construction)
- If you do not find the answers to your questions either on this page or the link pages, you are welcome to ask me and I will do my best to answer your questions.
Please be very sure the Siberian is the RIGHT breed for you before obtaining one.

That You Are Honest with Me and in Filling Out the Puppy Application and Will Make a Lifelong Commitment to Your Puppy
Siberians are without question one of the most beautiful breeds of dogs in existence, but this fact alone does not make them the right breed for everyone. You may love the look of the Siberian but your living situation may not be one that is suitable for a Siberian or temperament wise the Siberian may not be the right breed for you, at least not at this point in your life. I have had 40 years experience living with this breed and feel I can help you determine if the Siberian is right for you at this point in your life but I can't do that if you are not honest with me!
I take very seriously my obligation to ensure that every dog I breed has the very best opportunity to be successfully placed in a forever home the first time around, rather then coming back to me in the future looking for a new home. I have been fortunate to have been able to follow many of my puppies throughout their entire lives, sometimes even going with their owners for that last trip to the vet's office. I expect the same type of commitment from anyone getting a puppy from me.

The Siberian Husky has a normal life span of 10 to 14+ years. Responsible owners know that moving, a baby coming, time commitment, etc. are all things that should be considered prior to obtaining a dog! If a Chimini Siberian puppy owner is having problems with their puppy / dog I expect them to contact me early on and get help. Early intervention and help is the best way to ensure issues will be solved. If, however, the dog does need to be rehomed, I expect the owner not to shirk their responsibility by dumping the dog off at a shelter, rescue or trying to sell it by themselves online. Instead, as per my contract, the owner will contact me and we will work together to find a suitable new home for the dog. If you are not prepared to be a responsible owner and make this commitment to your puppy, PLEASE DO NOT get a Siberian in the first place!.
That You Will Be a Responsible Dog Owner
I expect anyone obtaining a puppy from me will be a responsible dog owner. This means they will be knowledgeable about the dog bylaws in their area and will follow these bylaws such as not allowing their dogs to run at large, picking up after their dogs, etc. I expect that your dog will be properly housed, feed, watered, exercised, given appropriate veterinarian care, and be treated as a valued member of your family.

What to Expect from Me
Making sure the Breed is Right for You
As mentioned above, I will try to ensure that the Siberian is the right breed for you. I'd much rather talk you out of getting a Siberian NOW then for you to get one and then find out the Siberian is not the right breed for you. This means I will focus on telling you about what many people consider to be negative points about the breed and I will not knowingly give you false information (ie the breed is hyperalergenic) just to sell you a puppy. I will ask LOTS of questions, I will want to meet you in person and I may do a home check prior to placing a puppy with you. My first priority are my puppies and if I'm not comfortable with a placement, it will not happen.

Registration
ALL my puppies are Canadian Kennel Club registered, tattooed and/or micro chipped and come with a 4 generation pedigree. Why is registration important? Well, in short, it is your guarantee that what you are buying is indeed a purebred Siberian Husky and not just a mixed breed dog that happens to look like a Siberian. When you buy a registered, purebred Siberian, you can have reasonable expectations about the size, temperament and health of your dog. If you have educated yourself about the breed and got your puppy from a knowledgeable, responsible breeder, there should not be any major surprises such as the dog weighing 95 lbs when top of the standard for a male Siberian is 60 lbs. (unless you are seriously over feeding and under exercising the dog!). Also, if the "breeder" of your dog is representing the puppy you are buying as a purebred Siberian but not registering the puppies then they are actually maybe breaking federal law under the Animal Livestock Act (see section 64). Puppies being sold as purebred, coming from CKC registered parents, MUST be registered with the CKC within 6 months of the sale of the dog! And if the breeder is not bothering to register the puppies they are also less likely to be doing other things that most responsible breeders do such as checking for hereditary problems in the parents prior to breeding.

Health
I will do my best to ensure that the puppy you get comes from healthy parents and lines. Dogs I own / coown that are used for breeding have their eyes cleared by a certified ophthalmologist and their hips cleared by OFA of hereditary deceases. 40 years experience in the breed gives me a good knowledge of past, as well as current health issues in the breed. I continue to educate and keep myself up to date on health issues arising in the breed by reading articles, attending seminars, talking to other breeders, etc. All my puppies are vet checked, given at least 1st vaccine, are dewormed, come with a health record from the vet and a 5 year written health guarantee because NO LINES are absolutely clear of all health issues no matter how careful a breeder may be. A written guarantee spells out and makes it clear to both parties what will happen if a health issue unfortunately does comes up. They can vary greatly from breeder to breeder. My guarantee involves a partial refund if the dog comes up with a hereditary health issue that effects the dog's daily lifestyle. If the hereditary problem results in the dog having to be put down then I will give a full refund. I decided to deal in refunds rather then replacement for a couple reasons. First, I hope that even if the dog has a health issue the owner will not want to give it up (required by some breeders for a replacement) just to get a new dog. Also, the owner may not want a second dog while dealing with a dog with a health problem. Secondly, if the health issue is serious enough that the dog has to be put down I want the owner to be able to decide for themselves if they want to buy another dog from me. Obviously, we all hope a health issue does not occur but if something does happen, I will try my best to be there for you.

Home Raised
My puppies are home raised with excellent care, nutrition, training and socialization. They are introduced to different situations, objects, flooring, people, etc. and get a start on positive clicker method of training as soon as they start eating real food.

Puppy Pack / Other
Besides what has already been mentioned, my puppies come with a puppy pack which normally includes a leash, collar, some grooming supplies, toys, a bag of food, and information on training your puppy. It will also include pictures and information on the puppy's parents and you will be added to my private Facebook Chimini Puppy Group. Here you can not just keep in touch with other people who got a puppy from the same litter you did but also ask questions and get ideas not just from myself but the whole Chimini puppy owner community. Some people in this group have several puppies from me and have had experience with the breed for 20+ years. I also post training articles and other information to this group.

After Sale Support For Life of the Dog
I will be there with my 40 years of experience in the breed and 20 years experience as an all breed dog trainer after the sale of the pup and throughout the life of the dog to help you in any way I can. Although I do my best to ensure this does not happen, I will also be there to work with you to rehome the dog if this becomes necessary.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFO BEFORE CONTACTING ME ABOUT A PUPPY
- I do not breed for coat or eye colour. I do breed for working functionality, temperament and health. I spend hours evaluating my pups' structure, movement and temperaments and talking to potential new owners trying to match a pup up with the best home for that pup to be successful in. If colour is someone's only criteria in choosing a pup then I'm not the breeder for that person as I can't guarantee colour and I don't want someone telling me a day or two before the pup is ready for its new home that they do not want the puppy selected for them just because it isn't their preferred colour preference. That would mean that I would have to start the home selection process all over again likely resulting in the pup staying with me several more weeks then it needs to and when it should be in its new home getting all the individual attention it deserves. That is not fair to that pup!
- I do not ship. You must pick up your puppy in person. I want to meet you and for you to meet me and my dogs.
- I do not sell littermates to the same pet home. Although I know there have been examples of success, I feel the risk of littermate syndrome is too great to ignore. I want to give my puppies the best start to life so they have every chance to reach their full potential.
- I prefer to place my puppies within the Maritime Provinces. Why? Because, I believe it is very important that I be able to easily visit my puppy people in person if they need my help and I can’t do that if my puppy is located on the other side of Canada or lives in another country! This is definitely the case when I'm dealing with first time Siberian pet owners or novice breeders. If you are located outside of the Maritimes please first contact breeders within your area that are selling CKC registered puppies to see if you can find a puppy and breeder that is closer to where you live.
- I make all decisions re the placement of my puppies. I have first pick(s), followed by co-own/breeding prospect placements and finally pet home placements. These decisions are normally made between 8-12. Depending on the size of the litter, this means I may not know which, if any, puppies are available to go to pet homes prior to this time. Placement decisions are made based on puppy quality, temperament and suitability for a particular home. My primary concern is for the welfare of my puppies and placing them in homes where I feel they have the very best chance of living out their entire lives in that new home. So If I do not feel I have a suitable puppy to place in a particular applicant's home, then I reserve the absolute right to NOT place a puppy in that applicant's home.
- Puppies going to pet homes are sold on a Canadian Kennel Club Non-Breeding Contract and must also be spayed / neutered.
If you are still interested in a puppy after reading the above information and doing your research on the breed then it will be a pleasure to hear from you and to send you a puppy application form. I will do my best to try to answer any questions you might have. You may find information on upcoming litters on the main litter page.
