Tatanka "Tanka"
Tatanka is from my Dances With Wolves litter. With a father named Wolvie and a mother named Jive, I figured this was the obvious theme for this litter. Tatanka in the movie means buffalo. Tanka lives with Carolyn Martin. Tanka is a very sweet, easy going, fun loving, intelligent boy. I just love this boy's structure and his wonderful temperament. He is an easy going boy who, like his half brother Pippin, is good with even young puppies.
Pedigree wise Tanka is 3/4 NorthWapiti (Karen Ramstead) line. His father Wolvie is an Iditarod finisher and grandfather is NorthWapiti's Super Grover, a five time Iditarod veteran and Karen's all time favourite dog. His two grandmothers are litter sisters, Kara and Freya from Karen's famous Norse God's litter. Kara is not only a five time Iditarod veteran, but also a Group placer in the show ring. Freya, who I bought from Karen in 2003 was an Iditarod veteran, she ran lead for me and was also an incredible therapy dog. Two other brothers from the Norse God litter, Odie and Loki, are also 5 time Iditarod veterans. So with such an impressive pedigree it should not surprise anyone that this boy is a favourite on the team. I really just can't say enough good things about this boy in harness.
Show ring wise Tanka's pedigree is not too shabby either with his mom being a RBIS winner and there being 5 BIS winners in just three generations. However, Tanka inherited the lean body of his working line relatives so it will take a few more years for this boy to mature enough for the show ring which has moved toward a heavier, fluffier type of dog. I do sincerely hope that one day the dog show judges will come to appreciate this boy as much as I do.
Lately Carolyn has been working with Tanka in Rally Obedience and Agility.
